PHOTO OPS DON’T FEED FAMILIES: NORTHEAST WISCONSIN DEMS HOST TOWN HALL WIED WON’T
While Rep. Wied avoids face-to-face accountability, WI-08 Democratic candidates Mark Scheffler and Rick Crosson will join farmers, workers, veterans, and small business owners for a community conversation on August 30th.
Green Bay, WI — On Saturday, August 30th at 1:00 PM, the 8th Congressional District Democrats, Indivisible Brown County, and the Brown County Democrats will host a community town hall to discuss the issues facing Northeast Wisconsin. The event is open to all residents and will be held at the Edison Middle School Auditorium.
August 30th will mark day 292 since Rep.Wied took office to represent Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District. During that time, he has found numerous opportunities for staged photo ops and partisan fundraisers, but continues to avoid holding public, in-person forums with his constituents.
On May 2, 2025, Rep. Wied wrote on Facebook: “When I ran for Congress, my number one priority was to be a representative for my constituents in Northeast Wisconsin regardless of their political affiliations.” Yet nearly three hundred days in, that promise rings hollow. Instead of showing up to hear from the people, Wied has chosen distractions, partisan talking points, and tightly scripted appearances.
Meanwhile, grocery prices keep climbing. Our president is militarizing American cities. Healthcare is becoming increasingly expensive and harder to access. Vaccines are disappearing. Veterans’ benefits are under attack.
“People are hurting across Northeast Wisconsin. This cuts across party lines. If Tony Wied won’t show up to have the tough conversations with his constituents, we will,” said Julie Hancock, Chair of the 8th Congressional District Democrats. “We are going to listen to them. We will find ways to organize and assist those who need it. This is what you do for your neighbors and friends. Photo ops and platitudes don’t put food on the table or get medicine to those who need it. This isn’t a political game — these are people's lives. And taking care of each other is what Patriots do.”
Despite being eager to take credit for passing The One Big Beautiful Bill, Wied seems strangely reluctant to explain it to the people it is supposed to help. “If the bill is so beautiful, why not show up to defend it?” asked Hancock. “Why is he hiding from the very people who live with the consequences of his decisions?”
The August 30th town hall will proceed with or without him. It will feature local leaders and voices from across Northeast Wisconsin, including working families, farmers, small business owners, and veterans, who are ready to discuss real solutions.
Democratic congressional candidates Mark Scheffler and Rick Crosson will also attend, giving voters a chance to meet individuals committed to doing the hard work that Wied avoids.
“For the first time in 20 years, Democrats in the 8th will have a contested congressional primary,” added Hancock. “This is not just another election, it’s a chance to show voters what our party stands for: listening to people, fighting for their families, and offering real choices for a better future. And to make our congressman ‘One-Term Tony.’”
Constituents deserve better than staged photos and empty promises. If Rep. Wied is too afraid to defend his record face-to-face, then Northeast Wisconsin will have the conversation without him.
